Founded in Canada in 2014, Standardized Urban Metrics (SUM) leverages a combined fifty years of experience in helping cities, higher levels of government and the private sector to capture and make use of standardized, globally comparable and independently verified city data. Standardized Urban Metrics (SUM) is an organization established to leverage high quality, ISO standardized city data in planning, management and investment in the city space.
A key focus in the work at SUM in 2024 is building globally standardized, third party verified data for Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) to support cities in their capital planning, bond issuance and Impact Analysis, and in creating data-informed ESG Profiles to demonstrate commitment to Sustainable, Inclusive and Responsible Governance.
